Vint Cerf

Co-designer with Bob Kahn of the TCP/IP suite in 1974, and one of those known as a 'father of the internet'. Career has spanned Stanford, ARPA, MCI, IBM, and—since 2005—Google, where he holds the title Chief Internet Evangelist. ACM Turing Award, 2004.

The forced cutover, remembered as 'Flag Day', established the protocols that now carry the Internet, and made operational the idea of an 'internetwork' interconnecting many networks.
